In my position for Business Professionals' Network (BPN), one of my responsibilities was the creation and maintenance of the company's websites. After a number of years serving the insurance and accounting industries, BPN expanded to offer continuing education to Human Resources (HR) professionals. Thus, the HR Education Network was launched, with the creation of its own website.
I worked with internal stakeholders to flesh out the goals and needs for the site. Initially, the primary focus was on conveying information on the new product line, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to aid in the service's growth.
With those goals in mind, I worked on designing and building the site. I based it on a wordpress framework, so as to allow non-technical staff to easily maintain and update the site content.
The heavy volume of information and text (to aid in SEO) made visual hierarchy (skimability), ease of navigation, and organization of content critically important. And again, I worked with internal stakeholders to help organize and edit site content.
In addition, since the site's focus was a new line of product offerings in a new industry, the entire site had to help instill a sense of credibility and confidence for users/potential customers.
